George Wimberly

Honorable Dr. George Eugene Wimberly, 92, of Little Rock, son of the late J.T. and Eleanor Wimberly of Star City, was born February 3, 1920. He departed this life on February 5, 2012, two days after his 92nd birthday.
George served his country in both war and peace. He spent three years in the South Pacific during WWII and as a U.S. Navy Pharmacist Mate/Corpsman. He was elected to eight years on the Little Rock Board of Directors, four of them as Mayor. He served five terms in the Arkansas House of Representatives, always working to serve others.
This determination led him into the field of Pharmacy at an early age. For over fifty years, both as an employee and as owner of Buice Drug Store, he was able to fulfill this dream. In 1986 he was honored to receive the Arkansas Pharmacist of the Year Award and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009.
Survivors include George's wife, Coy; sons, Wesley and John; grandson, Blake Wimberly; brother, Charles Wimberly and wife, Mary Kathryn; nephews, Jim, Larry, Gary and Rick Wimberly; and nieces, Peggy Reyher and Cherry White.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), officiated by Dr. Bob Dunaway.
The family requests no flowers, but rather, if so inclined, that a donation be made to the Honorable George Wimberly Scholarship, UAMS College of Pharmacy, 4301 W. Markham St., #522, Little Rock, AR 72205.
Arrangements by Little Rock Funeral Home, (501)224-2200. Mr. Wimberly's online guestbook may be signed at www.littlerockfuneralhome.com.
