George N. Smith

April 2, 1945 — April 6, 2022

Hensley

George Naymon Smith, 77, of Hensley passed from this world to his eternal home with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday April 6th, 2022. He lived a rich life as a loyal son to his parents, a great brother to his siblings, a dedicated father to his children, and as a loving grandfather and great-grandfather as well. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, always ready to wet a hook or climb into the deer stand. Indeed, his passion for enjoying the outdoors was well-known among his family and friends.

He served his Country faithfully as a boilermaker in the United States Navy. Though a man of many vocations, he spent the majority of his working life as a truck driver. Many also knew him as the nice man with a ready smile and sharp wit who sold produce at roadside stands located in various places around central Arkansas. As a minister, he devoted himself to sharing the word of God and witnessing to others about the eternal salvation available to them through the redeeming blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Smith; father and mother, Wilton T. and Iwanda Mayo Smith; his brothers, Walter and Wayne; and his sister, Carolyn. He is survived by his brother, John Smith; his sister, Patricia Johnson; 5 children (Johnny, Gioia, Jeff, Todd and Karen); 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many additional cousins, nephews, nieces and other family members who have loved and appreciated him over the years as a supportive family man. Though he fought valiantly and endured through significant illness in the latter portion of his life, his family and friends rejoice that his soul is now enjoying peace, comfort and rest in his heavenly home.

Visitation services for family and friends will be held Tuesday, April 12th, 10-11am at the Smith Family Funeral Home – Sherwood located at 7700 AR-107, Sherwood AR 72120 (phone 501-834-1191).
