George "Duke" Keir, 81, of Sherwood, went to be with his Heavenly Father of November 11, 2008.
Duke was born on March 12, 1927 in Toronto, Canada. At the age of 2 he immigrated with his parents to Denver, Colorado where he grew up. His parents had come from Scotland and Duke was proud of his scottish heritage.
At the age of 18 he enlisted in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. Thanks to the GI Bill, he studied at the University of Colorado and majored in Mechanical Engineering. His job took him to different parts of the Country , one of which was working for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on Apollo 11, the flight to the moon. Duke was a member of the Walter Seekers Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Chucrh in Sherwood.
He is survived by his wife Christel, his brother Bill, wife Ginny, sons, Dan, wife Lori, David, Darryl, wife Jana, and Curtis, wife Irene, and daughters Eileen, husband Mike, Monica, and eight grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be Monday at 2:00 p.m., November 17, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Sherwood.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial in honor of Duke Keir will be made to the music department of First United Methodist Church, 6701 JFK Blvd, North Little Rock, AR., 72116. Under the direction of Huson Funeral Home of Sherwood.
