George L. Baker, 86, of Sherwood, passed away September 2, 2009. Born July 10, 1923 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to George D. and Hattie Carmical Baker, he was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Ft. Roots Veterans Hospital as a Physical Therapist. He also retired from the Army National Guard and the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department. Mr. Baker was a member of North Little Rock First Assembly of God, where he was saved in 1972.
George was a 50 year member of the Crescent Masonic Lodge #403, a member of the Scimitar Shrine Temple of Little Rock and the Royal Order of Jesters Court #12. Wanting his daughters to participate in Shrine activities, he served in the Order of Rainbow for Girls with them, and was the State Rainbow Dad for 1974-1975.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Billie Ann Baker, of Sherwood; daughters, Patricia L. Holden and husband, Don of Conway, Arkansas and Joan L. Baker of Germany; granddaughters, Donna Rohrscheib and husband, Cotton of Conway and Bridgette Wallace and husband, Dustin of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Larashleigh, Kavanaugh and Jachin Wallace of Oklahoma City; step-daughters, Elise A. Bills and husband, Jimmy of Savannah, Tennessee and Rita A. Atkins and husband, Joe, of Franklin,Tennessee and Denise E. McMahon and husband, Greg of Sherwood; step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Jayson and Joshuah Bills, Will, Margaret and Ben Atkins, Jared Humphries, Brannon and David Chance McMahon; and step-great-grandchild, Asher Atkins. Also surviving is Eva Baker Hoerz of Conway, the mother of his children to whom he was married for 32 years. George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and sisters.
Funeral and Masonic Services will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock, officiated by Pastor Randy Long. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Bayou Meto Cemetery at Jacksonville. Pallbearers will be Don Holden, Jimmy Bills, Greg McMahon, Joe Atkins, Dustin Wallace, Cotton Rohrscheib, Mike Rushing Sr., Mike Rushing, Jr. and Ed Turner. The family will greet friends at the funeral home Friday evening, September 4 from 6-8 p.m.
