Gene Powell Smith

Gene Powell Smith, age 78, of North Little Rock, died November 19, 2023, after a seven year battle with Parkinson's disease.

Gene was born in Little Rock, a son of Ruben and Ruby Smith. He attended NLR schools and later joined the National Guard.

His professional career included restaurant and nightclub management, carpet installation for over 30 years, owner of a motorcycle shop and lastly working with the state drug enforcement office.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy Rhodes Smith, three sons, Darren Smith (Bethany) of NLR, Mike Major (Nikki) of Garland, TX and Troy Smith (Camaron) of Tacoma, WA; a sister Gail Barrett (Frank) of Memphis, TN and five grandchildren, Grace and Max Major of Garland, TX; Indira and Ian Smith of Tacoma, WA and Brooklyn Smith of NLR.

He is also survived by a beautiful extended family including sisters-in-law, Becky, Susan (David), DeDe (Jim); a host of nieces and nephews; long time life and lake friends Bruce, Sue, Tom, Candy, and Billy and many friends from his early Levy days. We would like to give a sincere thank you for the excellent care from Hospice and a special thanks to our angel caregiver, Curtis and all the powerful prayer warriors that guided us through this journey.

There will be a memorial service with visitation to follow at Smith NLR Funeral Home, 1921 Main St, NLR, AR on Friday, November 24th at 1:00 pm.
