Gene A. Blagg, 89, passed away on March 5, 2025, in Conway, Arkansas. Born on June 22, 1935, in Little Rock, Arkansas, Gene lived a life dedicated to family, faith, education, and service.
A proud graduate of Little Rock (Central) High School in 1952, Gene continued his education at Little Rock Junior College, earning his associate degree in 1954. He later obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Ouachita Baptist College (now University) in 1959 and a Master of Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1963. His passion for learning and teaching shaped his lifelong career in education.
Gene devoted nearly three decades to the Little Rock School District. He began as a teacher at Southwest Junior High School in 1959 before becoming the school's assistant principal, a role he held until his retirement in 1988. Even after retiring from administration, he remained committed to students by serving as an ESL tutor for the district. His dedication to education left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
Beyond his professional life, Gene proudly served his country as a Specialist Third Class RA in the U.S. Army and was a Korea veteran. His deep appreciation for American and military history reflected both his service and personal interests.
Gene was an active member of Pulaski Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and chairman of deacons. He also contributed to Vacation Bible School programs and numerous PHBC committees over the years. His faith was central to his life, guiding him in his devotion to family and community.
A man of many interests, Gene enjoyed watching classic movies, traveling the world with his wife and family, performing in community theater productions, and cheering on the Arkansas Razorbacks and St. Louis Cardinals. His enthusiasm for history—especially American and military history—was evident in both his studies and conversations.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn (Nunnally) Blagg of Little Rock; their children: Jennifer Wenger (Keith) of Sherwood, Stephen Blagg of Fayetteville, and Elizabeth Thomas (Troy) of Wylie, Texas; grandchildren: Jonathan & Rachel Wenger and Abigail, Joseph, & William Thomas; brother Charles Blagg (Kay) of Little Rock; sister-in-law Jennifer Blagg of Missouri; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse & Edna (Malone) Blagg; sister Margaret Jo Nix; brother A.L. "Buddy" Blagg; and half-sister Juanita Buck.
A visitation will be held on March 13, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Pulaski Heights Baptist Church's Hyde Parlor (2200 Kavanaugh Blvd., Little Rock). A memorial service will follow at 2:00 PM in the church sanctuary.
Gene’s legacy is one of love, dedication, and service to his family, students, church, community, and country. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
