Gaylon Ray Farmer

Gaylon Ray Farmer, aged 80, of Sherwood, Arkansas, formerly of Newport, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2024. He was born on September 16, 1943, in Cash, Arkansas, to Grover Cleveland and Cora Loyce Farmer. He graduated from Bradford High School in 1962. He married Michaela Rice in 1964, and they moved to Newport, Arkansas in 1966. He was saved in 1987 and a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church. 

Gaylon is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Eric Farmer and his wife Mica of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Timothy Farmer and his wife Kathy of Benton, Arkansas; his four grandchildren, Quinn and Chandler of Sherwood, and Taylor and Connor of Benton; his former wife Michaela; his sister Jo Edith Scaggs of Du Quoin, Illinois; cousin Vietta Metheny of Little Rock, Arkansas; two nieces, Janis Whalen and Nancy Moore; and several cousins and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Princess Ryan and Helen Janice Farmer; and daughter Raychelle Janice Farmer.

His career spanned 40 years working at George Kell Motors in Newport, Arkansas, working from a mechanic to car salesman, to finance and then general manager. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Newport Greyhound football. He was an active member in the Greyhound Booster Club and was the camera man for several years especially during the early production of the televised football games. 

He was a devoted and loving father and grandfather, always offering support and encouragement to his children. Following a stroke in 2004, he retired and lived at Sherwood Nursing Home, where he continued helping others by being resident council President, participating in activities including the Senior Olympics, and leading Bible Studies with visiting church pastors and residents.

Visitation service will be at 10 a.m. followed by memorial service at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 16, at the Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home, 7700 Hwy 107, Sherwood, Arkansas. Pastor Larry Campbell will officiate.
