Gary Cocayne

Gary Clinton Cocayne was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 28, 1951, the youngest of three children. With his family, Gary moved to Inglewood, California in 1960. After graduating from the University of California at Davis, Gary became a computer programmer. He was married to the late Deborah Swartout until she passed. Gary was also a recovering alcoholic for fifteen years.

He made contact with his high school sweetheart, Marlene Stewart Johnson, on October 16, 2016. In September, 2017, Gary left Santa Monica, California and moved to Little Rock to be with Marlene. They became engaged in November, 2017. On January 2, 2018 Gary suffered a stroke from which he never recovered. He passed peacefully at Hospice Home Care on April 12, 2018.

Gary is survived by his fiancée, Marlene Stewart Johnson; his sister, Elaine Turner; his brother-in-law, Michael Swartout, and numerous nieces and nephews whom Gary dearly loved.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 at Christ Episcopal Church. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Alcoholics Anonymous or to the Humane Society of Little Rock.
