Gary Akins Brown passed to his heavenly home on February 12, 2017. He was born in Bauxite, Arkansas on February 13, 1940 to Bernard Arkel Brown and Mary Jewel Akins. Following graduation from Henderson University in 1960, he was commissioned to serve in the United States Army and was deployed to Germany during the Berlin Crisis.
Mr. Brown was a Sr. Marketing Business Counselor and District Manager for Exxon, U.S.A., and also served on the Arkansas petroleum Council Executive Committee. He retired after 31 years with Exxon, after which he formed BBL Oil Company, entering into business ventures which resulted in the building and management of convenience stores in Little Rock. In addition, he shared ownership and management of BBB Ranch, spending many days with his father and brother making improvements to the family ranch and raising Beef Master cattle.
He was ordained as a Baptist Deacon by Central Baptist Church in Hot Springs and was a member of Sharon Baptist Church in Benton.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Theresa (Henthorne) Brown; son, Michael Brown of Little Rock; daughter, Michelle Fincher and grandchildren, Emily Fincher and David Fincher, all of Fairfax, Virginia; brother-in-law, James Mansfield; sister-in-law, Michelle Brown; nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
He is pre-deceased by his parents; brother, Dwight Brown; and sister, Wanda Mansfield.
Mr. Brown spent many enjoyable days on the golf course and many hours reading while simultaneously watching televised football, basketball, and golf tournaments. He treasured most of all the hours spent with his grandchildren.
The family expresses appreciation and thanks to Dr. Kristen Wright and the nurses at Family Practice of Benton, Dr. Charles Clogston of CHI St. Vincent Heart Clinic, and Dr. Keith Mooney of Arkansas Urology.
