Gary R. Barrentine, Sr., 61, passed into the arms of Jesus on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Baptist Hospital Springhill. Gary was born on February 22, 1953 to Wilbur and Pauline Barrentine, who preceded him to Heaven. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Teresa Hayes Barrentine; three children, Noelle Mackey (Bradford),Gary, Jr., and Heath Barrentine; one granddaughter, Camdyn Mackey; one sister, Becky Tackett; his Brother-in-Law Tommy Hayes (Jackie); his Mother in law Patricia Williams (Leonard); his nephews Kolby and Kris, his nieces Christina and Katherine, and many friends. Gary was a Master Plumber for the Little Rock School District and a member of Sherwood First Baptist Church.
Gary became a Christian at a young age and knew the importance of trusting and believing in God to handle life's ups and downs. He could tell you a lot more about the Bible than you might expect. Gary and Teresa married on October 27, 1973 at Levy Baptist Church. It was on Easter Sunday 1988 when they joined the church family of Sherwood First Baptist Church.
He was raised in a military family as his father made a career in the Air Force. He was taught to be respectful of his elders and always be polite. He carried these two things with him throughout his life. Gary was a good man. He had compassion, wisdom, honor, loyalty, a sense of humor and a love for not only the people, but also the pets in his life. To have known Gary and to have loved Gary was a privilege and an honor
Gary could play a mean game of pool, answer just about anything to do with movies and entertainment and take a joke. He could dish one out just as well. Gary could say a lot without talking a lot and get his point across. He could win you over by doing almost nothing. This was proven by the love and compassion that was shown to him by the staff at the hospital, who quickly developed a fondness for him. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather (his granddaughter called him Papoo), brother, uncle, and friend. As his daughter stated the morning after his arrival in Heaven, as the thunderstorms rolled in, the thunder was the angels firing up a game of pool as a new Team Captain entered the gates of Heaven.
Rest in Peace, Gary. We all love you.
