Garry Norman

December 7, 1948 — February 15, 2022

Garry G. Norman, 73, of Cabot, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born on December 7, 1948 in Searcy, Arkansas to the late Joe and Billie Baumann Norman.

Garry grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was raised in the Lakewood community along with his brothers and sister. While attending North Little Rock High School he met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Rebecca “Becky” Womble. Garry was a graduate of North Little Rock High class of 1966. Following graduation, he attended UCA in Conway and when Rebecca graduated high school, they both attended ASU in Beebe together. He went on to receive his associate degree in business. They both were inseparable and so much in love. Garry and Rebecca married on March 4, 1970, and began a family that same year while living in North Little Rock. They went on to have 4 children and spend their entire adult life together.

Early on, Garry had an automotive repair shop that specialized in repairing foreign cars. Cars were his passion. He was also a salesman by nature and never met a stranger. Both of which led him to start working in the retail car industry in 1994. As time went on, he continued to work in dealer management for many years to come. In his later years he worked alongside his sons in the wholesale car industry. Garry spent a lifelong career doing what he loved and knew best. In addition to taking care of his family, he truly enjoyed coaching his sons, when they were young, in baseball. The entire family spent many of days together at the baseball field cheering each other on. He was the one that his daughter would always go to when needing advice about anything and everything. Garry also liked hunting. Squirrel hunting was his favorite and he treasured this time spent with his sons. He had a love of many sports, including watching football, boxing, and the horses run. He also loved long trail rides on the motorcycles, playing cards and going golfing. Garry was also an excellent checker player. He first learned to play checkers at around the young age of 10 years old while working shining shoes at his father Joe’s barber shop on Main St. in North Little Rock. Like his father before him, he loved to play, and would every chance he got. His checkerboard stayed on the kitchen table, set up and ready to go. He and his son-in-law would drink coffee and play checkers for hours at a time, while his daughter and wife would sit and talk. This became a weekly tradition for the last several years.

He always had a joke to tell to anyone that would listen, and was usually the one that laughed the loudest. He was a straight shooter, didn’t mind telling you what was on his mind, and was a good friend to many. He was a loving husband, a wonderful father, and the best “Gege” ever. Garry was many things to many people. But most importantly, Garry was a Christian man. His Christian faith was a very important part of his life. He devoted himself to his biblical studies and spent a great deal of his life reading, interpreting and studying the Bible. He was at peace when he left this world, knowing he would be with his Heavenly Father in his eternal home. He will be greatly missed and will live on in all of our hearts and memories forever.

Garry is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Larry Norman; and a grandson, Canon Norman.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rebecca Womble Norman, his children, Shannon Fleming (Dennis) of Cabot, Brian Norman of North Little Rock, Chad Norman (Carrie) of Ward and Dustin Norman (Kim) of Cabot; grandchildren, Michelle Hillis (aka Moe), Brittany Faulkner, Felix Fleming, Chase Norman, Kamryn Norman, Dawson Norman, Jordan Norman, Mackenzie Norman, Brylee Norman and Mattex Warden; and 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and friends.
