Gala Sue James

Gala Sue James, age 87, of Glenwood, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023.

She was born on July 12, 1936, in Glenwood, the daughter of Francis Alexander O'Neal and Muriel Elizabeth Bailey O'Neal.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon James; her brother, Dean O'Neal; and her granddaughter, Melissa Smith.

Gala married the love of her life, Vernon, on August 18, 1953. She spent her years as a homemaker, always taking care of her children who lovingly say she "ruled with an iron fist." Gala loved going out to eat, shopping, collecting purses, and watching classic TV. Gala will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Debbie and Dean Chambers of Amity, Michael James of Bonnerdale, Billy and Christine James of Glenwood, and Rita and Robert Shaw of Hot Springs; her grandchildren, Adam Chambers, Sarah Cox, Ryan Mathis, Kate Cannon, Jessica Thomason, Michael James, Jr., Jessie James, Angelica Ramous; her numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Glenwood, 209 North Third Street, Glenwood, AR 71943.
