Frederick Isgrig

Frederick Arthur Isgrig II, LTC, US Army (Ret.), PhD, died March 12, 2011 at Madonna Heritage Assisted Living Home in Jarrettsville, Maryland at the age of 73. He was born on January 1, 1938 in San Antonio, Texas, son of the late Frank B. Scott and Nancy Jane Isgrig Wilkes. He grew up in Little Rock and attended Little Rock Central High School where he met his wife, the former Virginia Lee Matthews. He attended the University of Arkansas where he earned a PhD in Psychology, and was commissioned in the Army in 1964. LTC Isgrig served 26 years in the Army. A pioneer in human factors research, he did the groundbreaking work for mission-critical devices covering the full range of Army equipment, from Pershing Missiles to night-vision goggles, lasers to soldiers' boots, uniforms and rations. Family and friends remember LTC Isgrig as a true "Renaissance man", with exceptional talents in athletics, music and theatrical arts, a natural gift for languages, and a voracious reader with an innate curiosity about almost everything. He was an avid fly fisherman, bagpipe player and Rugby football player. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; three children, CAPT Katherine Isgrig, USN and her husband, Ilia Christman, MAJ Christopher Isgrig, USAR and Michael Isgrig and his wife, Shannon; three brothers and two sisters, Nancy Jane Wilkes, Dr. David Wilkes and his wife, Patricia, Susan Marshall-Winslow, Craig Scott and Gary Scott; and grandson, Frederick Isgrig IV. He was preceded in death by infant son, Frederick Isgrig III. Visitation will be Monday, March 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.).
