Freddie Harris

Freddie L. Harris, age 84, of North Little Rock, was called home to be with the Lord on February 27, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mayleen Lewis Harris; two sons, Thomas R. Harris (Chris) and Joseph "Kelly" Harris (Renee); two grandchildren, Emily and Jonathan Harris; sister, Sally Epler of La Marque, Texas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
Freddie was preceded in death by his parents, John Ross and Hattie Elizabeth Childress Harris; seven brothers and sisters; and one infant child, Jonathan Lewis Harris.
Born September 6, 1929, a part of the greatest generation, Freddie grew up in the heart of the Depression, learning the true value of family and friends, the value of a dollar and hard work, which defined him the rest of his life. His generation came from using an outhouse, bringing water from the well, no electricity, and bringing wood to start the stove in order to have the first cup of coffee, to watching a man walk on the moon. This history caused him to work two or more jobs a day so his wife could stay home to raise their two children.
Freddie was a veteran who served two tours during the Korean War, and understanding the needs of servicemen, went to work for the VA, retiring from the John L. McClennan Medical Center in 1981 with 29 years of service.
Freddie was member of The Church at Burns Park in North Little Rock and professed his faith daily to family and friends. Visitation will be held 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday at North Little Rock Funeral home, 1921 Main Street, North Little Rock, Arkansas. The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Arkansas Memorial Gardens in North Little Rock. Memorials may be sent to The Church at Burns Park, 295 Military Drive, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72118.
