Freddie Gene Polk

Freddie Gene Polk, 81, born December 17, 1941, in Hickory Plains, Arkansas to the late Cooper and Teresea Polk, passed away January 4, 2023.

Freddie grew up and lived his whole life in Hickory Plains. He was the youngest of eight children. Growing up he learned to farm cotton and soybeans. He married the love of his life, LaVita (Burke) in 1962. They made a home down the road from his parents. He worked at the sawmill at Hickory Plains and then the Trailer Factory. They started a family and had three children, LaResa, Bryan, and Sheryl. To support their little family, Freddie Gene went to work at Remington Arms and retired in 2008 after 36 years. Upon retiring, Freddie Gene enjoyed planting a garden for the whole community and spoiling the grandkids.

Freddie Gene is preceded in death by his sisters Blanch, Lorene, Lucille, Christine and Margaret; and brothers Charles and Raymond (Bud).

He is survived by his wife, of 60 years, LaVita; children, LaResa Polk, Bryan Polk, and Sheryl (Gary) Brannon, all of Hickory Plains; six grandchildren, Jarret Polk, Nicholas (Maggie) Polk, LaBeth (Brandon Garringer) Polk, Darius (Chrissy) Milam, Keith Polk, and Jordan Morris; five great-grandchildren, Kaleb Pierce, Addison Ritchey Milam, Liam and Charlotte McKendree, and Kaidyn Brannon; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Friday, January 6, 2023, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home, 404 W. Dewitt Henry Dr. in Beebe. Services will be Saturday, January 7, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Westbrook. Burial will be in Hickory Plains Cemetery.
