Freda Elizabeth (Hicks) Holder, 86, of North Little Rock peacefully passed away on January 23, 2014 surrounded by her loving family to go be with her Heavenly Father. She was born July 19, 1927 in Providence, White County, Arkansas, the youngest daughter of Shelby Lenox Hicks and Stella Beatrice Henderson. She was always full of life, faith, humor, and laughter. You couldn't be around Freda for long without recognizing her gentle, sweet and kind spirit and her genuine concern for others. To this end she made the decision many years ago to donate her body for medical teaching and research to the Division of Anatomical Education at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Freda was from a generation that always worked hard, loyally, honestly and lived within their means and these qualities she exemplified during her life. She was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers for 33 years in the Little Rock District office, then moving to Rogers, AR to complete her years of service at the Beaver Lake Project Office, retiring in 1988. After moving back to North Little Rock she began her second career working for Entergy Corp. in Little Rock in various positions until completely retiring in her early 70's.
Freda passionately loved and was equally loved by all of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Dr. Shelby Leon Hicks of Louisville, KY, her sister, Evelyn Oneida Chandler of Russellville, KY, and her grandson, Adam Bradford Holder. She is survived by her only child, son, Philip S. Holder of Sherwood; grandchildren Nicholas Holder (Amber) of Maumelle, and Erika Petit (Robert) of North Little Rock; great-grandchildren, Jase and Ashlyn Holder, and Sullivan, Alexander, and Cooper Petit; nieces Carole Sue Chandler of Russellville, KY, and Holly Cooper (Scott) of Crestwood, KY, nephews Steve Hicks (Cindy) of Shawnee, OK, and Theron Hicks (Lucy) of Goodlettsville, TN, and numerous other long-term and newly made friends.
Freda was a devoted woman of Faith who loved The Lord and was always in His loving care throughout her life. She was an active member of Baring Cross Baptist Church of Sherwood, AR for many years and was a past teacher and member of the Fluharty-Adair Sunday School Class and also a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star.
Family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street. A Memorial service will be held at10:30 a.m. Monday at Baring Cross Baptist Church in Sherwood.
