Freda Harper
Freda Earle Llewellyn Harper, of Hot Springs, passed away on February 21, 2010, near Hot Springs, Arkansas. For too many years, she claimed an age way south of the real count. She didn't want her real age listed, but she was born in Holland, AR., December 23, 1918. And since she had a great sense of humor, she would have laughed at this breach of her request. Her parents were Wiley T. and Lillian B. Goode Lewellyn (the spelling of the name change with the weather).
Freda had two Sisters Dolores Jean Lewellyn and Norma O'Neal, who are no longer living. She lived most of her life in North Little Rock, where she graduated from North Little Rock High School and attended business school. In 1941 she married Charles L. Harper and had their first child "chappy" while her husband served in the South Pacific during World War II. Later she would give birth to Tommy and Debbie.
Freda retired from Sears in the 1980's but never slowed down. She was very active in her church, volunteered for the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and was ready to go when anyone mentioned the possibility of a trip anywhere. A born traveler, she would hop on any bus, train, or plane headed anywhere that she hadn't been before. Conquering all 50 states, much of Europe, china, and the Holy Lands, she had fun wherever she went. She camped, panned for gold, rode elephants and camels with her grandkids, got on hot air balloons with her friends(and she had a lot of those), and was always ready for a card game. Even though in her final years as her memory faded away, if someone told her to be good, she would wink, cross her fingers on both hands, smile and say, "No promises, Bub".
Freda is survived by her two sons Charles L. Harper, Jr. and his wife Susan of Hot Springs; Thomas W. Harper and his wife Vicki of Celina, Texas; and one daughter Debbie Harper and her husband Karl Berkebile of Euless, Texas. She was crazy about her five grandchildren (Jason, Matt, Holly, Hamilton and Leslie) and three great-grandchildren (Kaitlyn, Lauren and Calvin).
Services will be at Baring Cross Baptist church, 7541 Warden Road, Sherwood on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at Huson Funeral Home in Sherwood.
