Frank Byars Somervell

Frank “Scooter” Byars Somervell, 71, of North Little Rock, passed away February 28, 2025.

Frank was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Frank King and Irene Byars Somervell

on April 14, 1953.

Frank graduated from Dermott High School in 1971 and worked as a conductor for Union Pacific

Railroad for 33 years. Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy Hassell Somervell;

daughter, Nichole Smith Collins; mom and dad, Frank and Irene Somervell; brother, Charles

Brent Somervell; nephew, Charles Brent Somervell Jr; aunt, Millicent Somervell Berry

(Clarence); aunt, Anna Varine Somervell Crowder (Al); aunt, Bella Camp Somervell Tesche

(Fred); uncle, William Thomas Somervell (Cyril Cobb); uncle, Charles Jade Somervell (Charleen

Matthews); aunt, Eugenia Somervell Yates (James); aunt, Ayleene Somervell Gregory

(Lawrence); aunt, Margery Sue Somervell South (Stanley); cousin, Warner Gregory (Judy); and,

cousin, Bennett South.

Frank is survived by his son, Nathan Smith; nephew, Eric Somervell; granddaughter, Cameron

Collins; grandson, Caden Collins; and a host of family members.

Frank was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, enjoyed fishing, working out in the

yard, and spending time with his four-legged pal, Buddy.

Frank was an avid Razorback fan, and if it involved the Razorbacks, Frank was committed.

Frank was the unofficial President of his neighborhood watch. There was nothing that Frank

was not aware of that was happening in his neighborhood. On a weekly basis, Frank would

walk the block, take his neighbor’s trash cans from the street and haul them back to their house.

Frank would also cut his neighbor’s yards, for no charge, without even asking. That little section

of Skyline Drive was synonymous with Cheers – everyone knew Frank.

Frank also was a hamburger aficionado, especially the hamburgers at David’s Burgers; where

he would frequent at least twice a week. Upon entry into David’s Burgers, the entire staff would

holler “Hey Frank. How you doing?”

It is the highest stage of Christian Culture which enables one, when most severely stricken, to

say in true resignation, “God’s will be done”.

The family would like to express gratitude to the following: Frank’s neighbors (Jan Gray, Lee

Ella Ratcliff, Mindy Stout, Kate and Zack Waller, Dale and Linda Wamsley; and Jared

Whitehead), Levy Baptist Church, Genesis Cancer Institute, UAMS, Elite Home Health Care,

Gentiva Hospice, Carelink, Robinson Nursing and Rehabilitation Care, and Wright by Your Side

In Home Care.
