Frances Josephine Wallace Sarna, 86, of North Little Rock, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2009, following a brief illness. She was born on June 1, 1923, in Gurdon, Arkansas, to the late Thomas Victor Wallace and Lillie Rushing Wallace. Following graduation from Russellville High School, she attended Hendrix College, graduating in 1946. While at Hendrix she met her future husband, the late Clement Luke Sarna.
Survivors include sons, Jan Christopher Sarna, of North Little Rock; and Lt. Col. Victor Jerome Sarna and his wife Elizabeth, of Fort Belvoir, Virginia; granddaughter Desirèe Margarete Sarna of Silver City, New Mexico; brother, Victor J. Wallace, of Little Rock; and many nieces, nephew, and friends, who will greatly miss her.
Frances began a career as a teacher in the North Little Rock public schools, then devoted her time as a mother, housewife, and frequent helper to her husband. Later she returned to teaching, spending a number of fruitful years at St. Mary's and St. Patrick's Catholic Schools in North Little Rock.
She was a loving, caring, self-sacrificing wife, mother, relative, and friend, with an uncommonly great amount of patience and tolerance. In times of trouble or crisis, she was there to do whatever she could.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 28, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Anne's Catholic Church in North Little Rock. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cemetery in Marche, Arkansas. A Rosary will be at 7 PM Thursday with a visitation from 5:30 until 7 PM at the North Little Rock Funeral Home,1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
