Frances Elizabeth Means

Frances Elizabeth (Bessie)Means was born in Malvern, AR, on September 1, 1955. She graduated from Hendrix College and then attended Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, where she graduated as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She returned to Little Rock, where she practiced at Baptist Health Hospital. While working as a CRNA, she attended the UALR School of Law at night and received a J.D. degree. With her new law degree, she joined the FBI and became a special agent working out of the Denver, CO office. After several years in the FBI, she returned to her career as a CRNA in Little Rock.

Bessie was an accomplished horseman and along with her horse John, competed in many Equestrian Show Jumping events in Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Later in life she took up rock climbing and bouldering.

A series of chronic illnesses caused her to retire early and give up her riding and climbing hobbies.

She passed away on November 11, 2024. Bessie is survived by her brother, Paul Means and his wife Sherry, as well as a niece Shawn Shepard and husband John, and nephew Malcolm Means and his wife Ashley. She was especially fond of her three grand-nephews; Francis, Auggie, and Louis.

There will be a private family graveside service at a future date.
