Frances Hanson

Frances Mae Griffin Hanson, 80, of Little Rock, passed away March 29, 2010. She was born on May 26, 1929 in Carrington, Missouri. Her parents, both lifelong residents of Callaway County (Missouri), were Joe Louis Griffin (10/4/05 - 10/2/77) and Leola Mae Brooks Griffin (10/7/04 - 4/27/98). She married Leo Irvin Hanson of Bowler, Wisconsin on August 10, 1949. Lee, Frances and their three children moved from Carrington to Millersburg in 1964. Lee died March 23, 1996.
Above all, Frances was a caring wife, mother, grandmother and daughter, and took loving care of her mother for several years. She was a retired teacher who taught Elementary School in Callaway County and the Fulton Public Schools for 36 years.
Frances was very interested and active in several national, community and vocational organizations; she freely gave her time and effort to further many groups and causes. She was a long-time member of the Millersburg Baptist Church, where she became treasurer in 1967. She was also involved in Vacation Bible School there for many years. Frances was elected as township committeewoman for the Democratic Party Central Committee several times.
She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 1980, and held several offices in that group. She was a member of Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teachers' organization, since 1980 as well. Frances was also a member, secretary and president of the Kingdom of Callaway Retired Teachers of Missouri beginning in 1989. She helped with the reunions for Fulton High School's Class of 1947.
Two sons and a daughter survive Frances: Larry and Connie Hanson of Columbia, Missouri, Randy and Janet Hanson of Little Rock, Arkansas and Colonel Bruce and Lindy Haines, currently stationed in Belgium. Seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive as well. Her husband, father, mother, infant sister and brother, Joe Dick Griffin of Nampa, Idaho preceded her in death.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, Missouri, preceded by visitation beginning at 1:00. Inurnment will follow at Carrington Cemetery in Fulton.
