Frances Bing, 90, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away Sunday evening, May 3, 2009 at Carrington Nursing Home in Starkville, Mississippi following complications associated with an acute illness. She was born August 29, 1918 in Marshall, Arkansas, the daughter of Dr. H. D. Weaver who was a dentist in Marshall, and Allie M. (Brewer) Weaver. She married Harold Alwin (Al) Bing on August 17, 1939. They were married until Al?s death on September 5, 1998. They had no children. Frances attended Arkansas Tech (then a two-year college) for two years, then transferred to the University of Arkansas where in 1939 she received a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in English. She was a Member of Kappa Delta Pi, a national honorary educational fraternity. She received her Master of Science degree in education from the University of Arkansas in 1967. She worked on the faculty of Jones High School and later at Northeast High School in North Little Rock until her retirement. She also worked for 15 years as a social worker at Family Service Agency and the Child Welfare Division of the Arkansas Department of Welfare for 15 years. She was active in the American Business Women?s Association for 20 years and served twice as president of Silver Charter Chapter. She was an active member of the American Association of University Women. She served on the board of directors of the Y.W.C.A. and on the board of the Pulaski County Mental Health Association. She was an elder of Park Hill Christian Church in North Little Rock and was active in Church Women United and the Shepherds? Center in North Little Rock. She is survived by three nieces and five nephews. Funeral services will be Friday May 8, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Park Hill Christian Church (tel: 501-753-1109), in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the Rev. Miles Cook officiating. There also will be a graveside service at East Lawn Cemetery in Marshall, Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials can be directed to the Bing Seminary Scholarship Fund at Park Hill Christian Church. Open visitation will begin at noon Thursday, 7 May 2009.
