Fran Guthrie
Sarah Frances Ray Guthrie, aged 62, died peacefully on June 8, 2015 in Alexandria, Louisiana, after a brief struggle with cancer. Fran was born on September 9, 1952 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, the daughter of T.C. Ray, Jr. and Johnnie Johnson Ray.
She graduated from Arkadelphia High School and attended Henderson State University where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. Fran served as the Administrative Assistant to the Senior Pastor and Director of Children's Ministry for over ten years at the First United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia and was adored by all who knew and interacted with her.
Fran is survived by her two children, Matthew Guthrie and wife, Crystal of Rogers, AR, and Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Estrello and husband, Raymond of Dallas, Texas; and four grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth Guthrie, Tinley Gracin Guthrie, Raymond Henry Estrello III and Frances Cruz Estrello. She also leaves behind three siblings, Charles Louis Ray (Carol) of Heber Springs, AR; Carla Ray Thompson of McCrory, AR, and Sally Ray Tarpley (Billy) of Sherwood, AR - and a dear cousin that was also a sister to her, Anne Fitzgerald (Dr. Frank) of Cheneyville, LA, as well as other dear cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous loving relatives and friends.
Family and friends were Fran's passion and delight - especially spending time with her four grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, antiquing (or as she liked to call it 'junking') and going to plays and concerts- some of which she ended up on stage dancing, and she also met and chatted with her favorite artist, James Taylor, on several occasions. She was always the life of the party.
Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 12, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia. Visitation will be take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. There will be a private graveside service for immediate family members at the Rose Hill Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the Fran Guthrie Children's Ministry Fund c/o First United Methodist Church, 107 N. 9th Street, Arkadelphia, AR 71923.
