Floyd Amos Riley, age 76 of North Little Rock, Ark. passed away March 9, 2011.
Floyd was born November 18, 1934 in New Madrid, Mo., the fifth of seven children born to Davis B. and Amney Haynes Riley.
Floyd graduated from high school in Kewanee, Mo. As a young man he served in the United States Air Force. Upon his return home, he worked for some time as a cotton scout and then as a self-employed farmer for several years. His attachment to his home centered on his love of farming and the land. Even after decades passed since his last crop, he always thought of himself as a farmer.
He was married to Peggy Wilson with whom he had a daughter, Molly Ann Riley of Kansas City, Mo. After their divorce, Floyd never remarried.
Survivors include his daughter and three sisters, Margie Straka, of Magnolia, Texas, Edna Finley Ellington and Sarah Lee Hunter, both of New Madrid, Mo.
Preceding Floyd in death were his brother D.B. Riley III, his mother Amney Haynes Riley, his father D.B. Riley II, his brother George H. Riley and his sister Amney May Franks.
With the exception of military service and a short time working in Michigan, Floyd lived in and around the New Madrid area until his 71st year.
Loved by many and missed by all who knew him, "Uncle Floyd" spent the last five years of his life in North Little Rock, Ark. with the family of his nephew, John D. Riley, son of George H. Riley. He was a blessing in their home.
Released from the burden of his many illnesses we know he is presently in the company of our Heavenly Father and if you listen closely you will hear his very familiar and easily found laughter.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Central Arkansas VA Hospital, especially the Adult Day Care Health Care, where Floyd spent almost every day for the past five years. There he found good friends, excellent care and shared his joy.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Open visitation Thursday noon until closing.
Arrangements by North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main, 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
