Rev. Floyd Emmerling, preacher, pastor, and poet, died Sunday morning, July 8, 2007 at the age of 80, in the firm hope of continuing on to the next phase of living the abundant life he had so long ago found in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his second sweetheart and wife, Sarah Phelps Emmerling, and by his three children from his first marriage, David Emmerling of Sarasota, Florida, Laura Thomas of Bloomfield, Michigan, and Sherri Andrews of Sherwood, Arkansas. He is also survived by his brother Glen Emmerling, and by eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In many ways, Rev. Emmerling, or Brother Emmerling as he was known to many, or O'Pa, as he was known to his loving family, lived the life of a Renaissance man, plunging with passion and gusto into all he felt called to do in his long life, always living with integrity and honesty, touching many, many lives for the better.
Rev. Emmerling faced his impending death the same way he lived his life, with great courage and hope, as he spent his last weeks as an inpatient at Hospice Home Care on Bowman Road in Little Rock, surrounded by family and friends and the compassionate staff. While those of us left behind love and miss him, we can only say, Farewell Bro. Emmerling, farewell O'Pa, we'll be seeing you . . . .
