Faye Mullen

Faye York Mullen, age 83, of Little Rock, died on October 7, 2021, and is now in the arms of her loving Savior.  Born in Langley, AR, the youngest of seven children, she was a graduate of Langley High School and Draughon School of Business in Little Rock.  She met her husband, Winfred C. Mullen, at church and they were married for 64 years.    She wanted everyone to know about her Lord and Savior, dearly loved her family, church friends, and neighbors, and was known for her amazing coconut cream pies.

At age 16, having graduated from high school 1 year early and due to her July birthday, Faye bravely transitioned on her own from her family in rural southwest Arkansas to the much larger city of Little Rock.  The courage and determination to succeed that she exhibited as a teenager served her well over her lifetime, and she instilled it in their daughters.  Initially, she worked as an in-home nanny for a working family in return for her room and board while attending secretarial school.  Someone invited her to Temple Baptist Church, where she met and began dating her future husband, who had also transitioned after high school from his rural hometown in northern Arkansas to Little Rock to attend a different business school.  They married when she was 18 and Win was 20.  They loved their church families and were very involved at Temple Baptist Church for 23 years and Immanuel Baptist Church for the past 41 years.

She is survived by daughters, Karen Parrish (David), Southlake, TX and Kathy Morey (Andrew), Iowa Colony, TX; grandchildren, Lauren Amaro (Andrew), Lindy Hunt (Chris), Carson Morey and Austin Morey; sister, Jewel Balser of Alexandria, IN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Raleigh and Lona York, and siblings, Lena Peyton, Eva Beck, Ruby Corwin, Hersel York, and Eletha Balser.

Faye’s Celebration of Life service will be on Sunday, October 10, 2021, at 1:00 pm in the Chapel of Immanuel Baptist Church, 501 N. Shackleford Rd, Little Rock, AR, followed by visitation.  Dr. Steven Smith will officiate, and Rusty Hart will direct music.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church ( https://ibclr.org/give/ )
