Farrell C. Whitfield, 92, of Benton, AR passed away on May 25, 2015 to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on February 2, 1923 in Bismarck, Arkansas to the late Wanie R. and Minnie M. Whitfield.
Farrell Whitfield served in the United States Army during WWII in the Pacific conflict. He served as an electrician and was qualified as a Rifle Sharpshooter. Farrell was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, and two Overseas Service Bars. He had a loving heart and enjoyed helping people. Farrell was a talented musician and could play almost any stringed instrument. He was also an accomplished mechanic and enjoyed his work at the Burton Ford dealership and Otasco before retirement. He lived each day of his later years to assist his son David in his work for Whitfield Appliance. He loved to be on a tractor mowing grass and pastures and doing most any work outdoors. Having been raised during the Great Depression, Farrell knew the value of helping others in need and he never ceased trying to help those in need throughout his life. Family noted that not only were we blessed to call him dad, but also honored to call him a father. He was a very selfless example of giving-not expecting anything in return.
Farrell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joyce M. Whitfield; two sons, Daniel R. Whitfield and David D. Whitfield; brother and sister-in-law Clifford and Lona Whitfield; sister and brother-in-law, Haral and Oneeda Beebe; and sister Odean Whitfield.
Survivors include his daughter, Dewana M. Burns; daughter-in-law, Sara Whitfield; grandchildren, Scott, Sarah, Peter and Sasha Whitfield; Hannah, Matthew, and Anna Grace Burns; brother, Bill Whitfield and wife Dorothea; sister, Faye Powell and husband Charles; sister, Opal Castleberry and husband Leo; a host of nieces and nephews he loved dearly; as well as many other family members and friends who loved Farrell and will miss him always.
