Lee Wagner, 85, of Little Rock passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011. He was born in Keswick, Iowa to the late Theodosha and Hugh Wagner, and preceded in death by his brother, James. Lee grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1944. He was one of the "Greatest Generation", and served in the 425th Field Artillery Group in Italy, France and Germany.
After returning to the States he married the "love of his life," Joan Oehrlie on February 8, 1946. They enjoyed 65 wonderful years together. Lee graduated from St. Louis University in May of 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Finance. He and his wife returned to Little Rock where he worked for Dunn and Bradstreet for 5 years, and then joined the accounting staff at the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. He retired in 1988 after 35 years as the department's Chief Accountant. After retirement, he and his wife fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling around the world. He loved golf and fishing; his friends and family enjoyed many fish fries that he cooked for them. He was a long time member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church where he served on the Parish Council, finance committee, as an usher and Eucharistic Minister. He was a Fourth Degree member of Council 812 of the Knights of Columbus. For the past 7 years, Lee volunteered in the St. Vincent's Endocrinology and Diabetes Clinic and for Alzheimer Arkansas.
Lee is survived by his wife, Joan; a sister, Shirley Reeves of Maumelle; a daughter, Cindy Radetic (John) of Chesterfield, Missouri; a son, Mark Wagner (Nan) of Little Rock; and four grandchildren, Lauren Radetic Gloriod (Stephen), Zachary Wagner, Christopher Radetic and Colin Wagner.
Visitation will be Monday, April 18 at 6:00 p.m. with Rosary led by Rev. Warren Harvey following at 7:00 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Court (NW corner of I-630 and Barrow Rd.). The Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, April 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, concelebrated by Rev. Harvey and Rev. Richard Zawadzki. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Alzheimer Arkansas or the St. Vincent's Endocrinology and Diabetes Clinic.
