F. Richard Jordan, MD died at this home in North Little Rock after a lengthy illness. Richard was born Dec. 1, 1946 in Little Rock to Fred Jordan and Valerie Henderson Jordan of Sheridan, Arkansas. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Phillip Michael Jordan of Sheridan and Joan Jordan Bostic of North Little Rock. Richard is survived by daughters, Jill Jordan of Sherwood, and Jan Jordan Nash (husband Perry) of Springdale; adopted son, Paul Dixon of Nashville, TN; and grandchildren, Jade Nash and Jordan Goss.
Richard grew up in Sheridan graduating from Sheridan High School as Valedictorian in 1964. He attended Hendrix College where he graduated with honors in 1968. Richard entered UAMS in 1968 where he was named a Barton Scholar graduating in 1972. Richard’s compelling interest in neurosurgery led him into complete a residency in neurosurgery at UAMS. He then joined the University of Pittsburgh’s program in micro-neurosurgery completing his residency at the University’s Presbyterian Hospital. Upon return to Arkansas, Richard rejoined UAMS as a micro-neurosurgeon serving UAMS and Arkansas Children’s hospital. Following his service at UAMS, Dr. Jordan built a neurosurgery practice in North Little Rock from 1979-2016. Richard’s compassion for his profession and dedication to his patients led him to develop new techniques and equipment in neurosurgery which included a patent for one of the first epidural stimulating electrodes for use in spinal surgery. Dr. Jordan was noted for his advancements in neurosurgery and often was a speaker at conferences in the US and abroad. Recently, Dr. Jordan received a Certificate of Appreciation, Fifty Year Club, from the Arkansas Medical Society. During his years of service as a physician.
Dr. Jordan, also, served in the Army Reserve obtaining the rank of captain while serving from 1972-1981. Besides neurosurgery and his patients, Richard’s other passions were his love of traveling, experiencing other cultures, theater, and music. During his lifetime, he visited 47 states and 57 countries often collecting art and wine to add to his collections. His passion for music began early in his life when he learned to play multiple instruments including the piano and organ. Richard was active supporter of the arts including Opera in the Rock, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, and the Weekend Theater. Dr. Jordan was acknowledged by many friends and organizations for his kindness and generosity.
The family thanks everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers. Richard’s life will be celebrated at a memorial to be held on his birthday weekend, December 3, 2022 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Opera in the Rock in honor of Richard Jordan.
