Ewing Reed

Dr. Ewing Calvin "EC" Reed, Jr. 85, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007. A graduate of the University of Arkansas Medical Science Center, he was a Captain in the United States Air Force and served as a Flight Surgeon in the Korean War. Upon his return to the United States, he settled in Little Rock and restarted his practice at Baptist Hospital as a General Practitioner and Surgeon. He later specialized in Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a passion for delivering babies.
In his 51 years of practice, he delivered over 10,000 babies. He had the honor of delivering the first baby at the Baptist Medical Center when it opened its new facility. He retired from private practice in 1996. He continued to work thereafter for several years on a part time basis for MEPS and the Breckenridge Family Practice Clinic, as well as serving on three Medical Retirement Boards.
When he wasn't delivering babies, he could be found on the tennis court or fishing and enjoying life with his family and dear friends. So many of his patients adored him which speaks to the devotion and love he had for his practice. He was a devoted father and husband and will be truly missed for his contribution to so many lives.
He was preceded in death by Ewing C. and Mary Hicks Reed. He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Betty White Reed; daughters, Sharon Lynn Simmons ( Jerry) of Austin, Texas; Mary Elizabeth Henderson (John) of San Antonio, Texas; Nancy Lynn Reed of Little Rock; and Lynne Marie Green (Tommy) of Camden, Arkansas; grandchildren, Catherine Lynn Bowden (Don) of San Antonio, Texas, and Jennifer Green of Camden; and great-grandchildren, Thomas and Christina Bowden. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Cynthia Laine Dees, Sharon Lynn Dees and Lawrence Daniel Dees, of Dallas, Texas; Beverly Anne Moore (Dave) of Peachtree City, Georgia; and grandchildren, Shawn Michael Paul of Sterling, Virginia and Keith and Katherine Moore of Peachtree City, Georgia.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Bravo and Dr. Abraham, the staff of Baptist Medical Center ICU South and especially thanks to Nurse Julie. A private memorial service was held by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Baptist Health School of Nursing, or the Maumelle Friends of Animals Rescue or your favorite charity.
