Everett Henry Davenport, affectionately known as "Hank," was born on November 20, 1937, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, laughter, and music. Hank was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Sybil, with whom he shared 51 wonderful years. Together, they created a nurturing environment that was a testament to his kind-hearted and loving nature.
Everett's life journey took him through various roles that allowed him to touch the lives of many. As a dedicated music director at several local churches, he shared his passion for music with those around him, uplifting spirits through song. He also worked at Safeway and spent time as a delivery driver for Amerisource and Southern Wholesale Florists, where countless encounters showcased his charming personality and wit.
Known for his hilarious sense of humor and welcoming demeanor, Everett was a man who never met a stranger. He had an incredible ability to make people feel at ease, including all his grandchildren’s friends, who affectionately referred to him as Pop Pop. His kindness was unwavering; he never judged anyone and always treated others like friends.
Family meant everything to Everett. One of the cherished memories that stands out is when Joyce delivered Samantha; Everett found a way to call the labor and delivery floor from the road to be there for his family during that special moment. He fondly recalled the time he drove to California to pick up his grandchildren and daughter-in-law, ensuring they had a memorable trip back to Arkansas together.
Everett was a proud member of the Arkansas National Guard, a testament to his commitment to serving others. His devout Baptist faith helped shape his values and fostered a profound sense of compassion that resonated with all who knew him. His love for music extended beyond his professional life, as he enjoyed playing guitar and singing for family and friends — often captivating anyone who would listen.
He is survived by his wife Sybil Davenport; children, Karen Davenport (Anthony Campanale), Joyce Stewart (Leslie), and Wayne Jesus; his grandchildren, Philip Davenport (Ashley), John Davenport (Victoria), Stephen Davenport (Melissa), Samantha Krause (Anthony), and Mary Holman (Jeremiah); as well as nine great-grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy. The family also cherishes the companionship of their fur baby, Freddie.
Everett now joins his parents, Alex and Lucille Davenport; his son, Robert Davenport; and his sisters, Patsy McDonald and Martha Crane, in eternal rest. Their memories will live on in the hearts of their loved ones who continue to cherish the joy and love Everett brought into their lives.
Services to honor his incredible life will be held at Smith Sherwood Family Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107). Visitation will be held on September 30, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service on October 1, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
