Evelyn V. Wilson died at her daughter’s home in Little Rock, AR on Tuesday, May 4, 2021. Evelyn was born to Julius and Vera Bender on December 3, 1922 in St. Louis MO. She lived her whole life in St. Louis and vicinity until recently relocating to Little Rock, AR. Evelyn married Vernon J. Wilson on March 21, 1942 and enjoyed a full life with him until his death, July 14, 2006.
Evelyn loved life, her Lord, and her family. She was the devoted mother to Jeffrey (d. 2006) (Mary) Wilson, Boyd (Sara) Wilson, Patricia (Rick) DeHaan, Pamela (Mark) Trover, and Jon (Audrey) Wilson; loving grandmother to John (Megan) Wilson, Timothy (Sarah) Wilson, Margaret (Sunny) Singh, Becky Schmidt (Dave Fleece), Carolyn DeHaan, Christin (Junior) Torrez, Ryan DeHaan, Jared (Mallory) DeHaan, Rachael (Josh) Newton, Laura (Jeff) Breeding, Michael (Ashley) Trover, Rebecca (Jacob) Smith, Reid Wilson, and Courtney (Zach) Moskowitz; adoring great-grandmother to Travis, Everett, Kate, Becca, Alana, Ella, Elise, Cooper, Joshua, Brienna, William, James, Owen, Arlo, Jack, Lily, Claire, Samuel, Owen, Mary Grace, Henry, Hudson, Emmett, and Declan.
Evelyn’s faith in Jesus Christ was the center of her life and the foundation for everything she did. She loved sharing this faith at a Good News Club for the neighborhood children, at a Bible study with neighbors and friends, or at a church service. One cannot think of Evelyn without remembering her faith. Equally central to Evelyn’s life was her family. She was a devoted daughter, a faithful wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and an adoring great-grandmother. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family. She especially loved the family reunions when all of her beloved family were gathered with her in one place. Evelyn’s love extended beyond her family, spilling out onto her many, many friends. She made friends, not just acquaintances, everywhere she went. When she moved to a condo in Cottleville at age 85, some wondered if she would be lonely so far from south St. Louis County. Within just a few weeks her condo became the social hub of the neighborhood where she hosted almost daily afternoon gatherings with her new friends. Evelyn especially enjoyed expressing her love of family and friends through preparing and serving meals. At a pot-luck meal at church, a family get-together, or a tea or luncheon for friends, Evelyn was the consummate hostess. She loved indulging her family, friends, and church brothers and sisters with delicious food and elaborately prepared meals. She was a servant at heart and found that the best way to demonstrate her service to others was at the dining table.
Evelyn loved deeply and was deeply loved. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service, celebrating Evelyn’s life, will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Covenant of Grace Church, 1111 Muegge Rd., St. Charles, MO 63303.
