Evelyn Hughes

Evelyn Hughes, age 95, of Bryant, passed away on August 21, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John; her son, Kelly; and her three brothers. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law, Cathy and James Webb of Bryant, and many nieces and nephews. 

She was born in Kansas City but soon moved to Hot Springs. After graduating, she worked at Walgreens when it was a Pharmacy and Café. That's where she met the man she would marry. In 1953 they moved to Missouri where they raised 2 children. She volunteered at the hospital and was a Cub Scout leader. In 1977 they moved back home to Little Rock. She worked for the State for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church and volunteered at the food pantry. They enjoyed spending time with friends and family. They went to the lake and camping as often as they could. She loved to read, even into her 90s.

The family gives a special thanks to Suzette Handwork and the wonderful caregivers at Southern Charm Senior Living in Benton. When times got hard, Suzette was always there with advice and support for the family and they took care of all mom's needs one on one.

A visitation will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 10:00 AM and a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Smith Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market St. Benton, AR. Service will be officiated by Rev. Hart Moore. Private burial for Evelyn will be at Oakland Cemetery.
