Evelyn Louise Clough

Evelyn Louise Clough, 90, of North Little Rock passed away December 11, 2022.  She passed quickly while laughing, watching TV, looking at photos from our trip with Gary and Farina Clough by her side at their home, where she had been living for the last 7 months.

She was born in Hartman, Arkansas on October 13, 1932, to the late Emil Oberste and the late Mamie (Marie) Beumer Oberste. Evelyn raised six children with her late husband, Donald Clough.  Raised during the Great Depression, she learned to appreciate what she had, and worked hard and saved to get what she wanted.  She picked cotton, peaches, and worked on the family farm while growing up.  Her first real job was as an elevator operator at a department store in Ft. Smith in the late 1940’s.   She worked at Mary Carter Paint in Little Rock as an art hobby demonstration instructor. She later worked for many years as a seasonal worker at the US Government Cotton Division in the fall, helping to grade cotton for farmers.   She was an artist, painted many paintings, and was very creative. She was a homemaker, a good cook, a wonderful baker, a mother, and a grandmother.   Her grandchildren called her Muffin and Fee.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in North Little Rock since 1963 and a member of their choir.

Survivors include her children: Susan Firtik (AR), Dr. Jeffrey Clough (WY), Denis Clough (MO), Gary and Farina Clough (AR), and Nicole and John George (MO); grandchildren:  Aleeza van Geemen, Joel van Geemen, Emma George, and Evan George.  She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Bruce Clough and her husband, Donald Clough. She is also preceded in death by most of her 4 brothers and 4 sisters, with only two younger brothers remaining, Danny Oberste and Mickey Oberste, both of Oklahoma.

A memorial service will be on Saturday, January 21st at 11:00 at the Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home for friends and family.  There will also be a small graveside service in Hartman the same afternoon around 3:00 for anyone that would like to attend.
