Eugene Thrash

September 6, 1937 — September 12, 2021

Edward Eugene Thrash left his Earthly home, peacefully, to his home in Heaven on Sunday, September 12, 2021. He leaves behind a legacy that will remain on this Earth for many years to come.

He was born in Glenwood, Arkansas on September 6, 1937, the son of Edward (Ed) and Ethel Norris Thrash. He grew up in Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1956. On September 5, 1959, he married the love of his life, Reba Dunlap Thrash. Together, they are the greatest example to those around them of “two becoming one.” They created a family that includes four children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. As Dad and PaPa, he was always there to listen, encourage and point us in the right direction.

He was a Christian in his faith and a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Glenwood. Throughout his life he served many roles at the church including Deacon, Sunday school director, teacher and was on many committees. He was strong in his faith, service, dedication to God, his family and church. Eugene worked for the U.S. Forest Service at the Caddo Ranger District of the Ouachita National Forest for forty-two years before his retirement in 1998. During his career he was the foreman of the marking crew, fought fires out west, and was the Timber/Sales Administrator for the district. Eugene loved sports. He was an avid baseball player and played into his 30’s. He loved watching, playing, and coaching. He loved being the “Sunday afternoon quarterback” with each of his kids taking their phone calls about the games from the day before. No words can describe how much those conversations are cherished and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Reba Thrash of Glenwood, one son, Tracy Thrash of Glenwood, three daughters and sons-in-law, Gena and Bobby Matthews of Shreveport, Louisiana, Tammy and Joe Williamson of Jonesboro, Arkansas and Carmen and Ryan Berens of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Josh Thrash, Sloan Matthews, Mary Allison Matthews Grimes, Tori Thrash, Alie Williamson, Claire Berens and Mason Berens; three great-grandchildren, Jaylin Thrash, Gunner Thrash and Isabella Grimes; and one brother, Bobby Thrash of Forth Worth, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of wonderful friends.
