Eugene Gentry

Eugene "Pop" Gentry's sunrise was June 10, 1957 in Albion, Michigan; his sunset was December 17, 2011 in Baptist Hospice Hospital in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was of the Assembly of God faith. Pop fought the good fight, he finished the race, he kept the faith and his is with our heavenly father, free from all the pain he has endured over this last year and especially the last weeks of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Johnnie "Kay" Strawn Hankins Gentry and our son, Danny "Dusty" Hankins and his furry grandchild, Socrates, who helped make his last year more bearable. Also surviving are his parents, Emmett and Betty Glosson Gentry of Cabot; sister, Tamya Gentry Newberry (Donny) of North Little Rock; sister-in-law, Barbara Thomasson of White Hall; niece, Donya Newberry Alexander and nephew, Brian Newberry; great-nephews, Dylan and Blake Alexander and Ty Newberry; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and a multitude of friends. Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Wakley and Myrtle Grant Gentry and Earl "Buck" Glosson and Myrle Waymeyer Glosson, all of Benton.
Pop loved music of all types; he sang in the choir at Northeast High School, including the state competition. He loved to dance and enjoyed spending time with his great nephews. He was a Territory Relief Manager for Kellogg's Snacks before the cancer changed his life forever. Over many years of retail management, he worked for Safeway, Harvest Foods, Knox Nelson Oil Company and Carter Oil Company. Over his working career he touched many people's lives and they were enriched by knowing him.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 20 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock.
