Eugene "Gene" L. Prohl

Eugene Leonard “Gene” Prohl, 89, of North Little Rock passed away December 6, 2022.  He was born in Hot Springs, AR to the late Wellington Eugene and Sally Alice Crane Prohl. 

He graduated from Hot Springs High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the submarines USS Carp and USS Tilefish.  He then graduated from Arkansas Tech University (Arkansas Polytechnic College at the time) with a degree in Music Education and taught band for eight years in Waldron, Murfreesboro, and Newport, AR.  When a teacher’s salary wasn’t enough to support a family, he joined IBM and retired as a Program Support Representative after 29 years. 

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in North Little Rock where he served as an usher for over 40 years. 

He was a member of the North Little Rock Community Concert Band (playing flute and serving on the Board of Directors), USSVI Razorback Submarine Base, and Holland Club. 

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sara Barborek Prohl; daughter Valerie Boyce, her husband Brian, and their children Jacob Boyce (wife Haley) and Zachary Boyce (fiancée Kainna Rambo); and son F. Eugene Prohl, his wife Toni, and their children Ethan Williams (wife Therese), Sean Williams (wife Jessica), and Emily Prohl. 

Viewing is 4:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, December 8, at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home.  Mass of Christian burial is 10:00 AM Friday, December 9, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, NLR.  Interment with military honors will follow at 2:00 PM, at Brearley Cemetery, Dardanelle.
