Eugene Brown, age 89, of Caddo Gap, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022.
He was born on January 10, 1933, in Mont Vista, Mississippi, the son of Mike Jones Brown and Lucy Carolyn Byrd Brown. On January 10, 1952, Eugene married the true love of his life, Joyce M. Parsons Brown, who preceded him in death on May 12, 2022. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, infant sister, O. D. Brown, brothers, Clarence Brown, Raymond Brown, Mike J. Brown, Jr., Thomas Brown and Leon Brown, and sisters, Inez Hatchett, Nellie Fay Mills and Olivia Colston.
Eugene was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Norman, where he served for many years as a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the church board. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during the Korean War and was a Memphis, Tennessee Police Officer for over twenty-nine years until his retirement. Following his retirement, he and his wife, Joyce, relocated to Arkansas, where he became a substitute teacher for the Caddo Hills School District, becoming a loyal follower and supporter of their Athletic program. For the next several years, Eugene and Joyce took great joy in going to all of the Caddo Hills games.
Eugene also enjoyed farming, he especially loved riding his tractor and bushhogging, you could even say he thought of himself as a “bushhogger extraordinaire”. Above all, Eugene was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who dearly loved his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his two daughters, Toyia Brown of Southaven, Mississippi and Brenda Anderson of Horn Lake, Mississippi; his grandson and his spouse, Tommy and Jocelyn Seawright of Senatobia, Mississippi; his great-granddaughter, Sophia Seawright; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
A private family service will be held.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home – Glenwood.
