Ethel O. Davenport, 93, formally of Benton died on Sunday July 10 peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Ethel was born December 24, 1922 to the late Ira and Tennie (Smith) Alderman in Lamesa, Texas.
Ethel had many great accomplishments in her life, but none were more important to her than her love for her family. She was a middle child and had seven sisters and six brothers.
Ethel worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" in the shipyard as a welder during the war. Following the war she went on to business school where she completed her education in business and became a bookkeeper in the accounting field.
Ethel met the love of her life and soon to be husband while working in a dress shop, a romance that lasted 65 years. James "Jed" Davenport and Ethel would marry December 24, 1947 and would last until James died in October 2012. James and Ethel would live in Benton where they raised their family.
Ethel is survived by one son: Ron Davenport and wife Debbie of Conway; two grandchildren: Heather Morris and husband Mike of Conway and Stephen Davenport and wife Tracy of Springdale; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Bobby Price of Traskwood, AR and Margie Padgett and husband Shorty of Houston, Texas.
A reception visitation will be held at 10:00-11:00 Am on Saturday July 16th, with service following at 11:00 AM at Smith Benton Funeral Home with David Duff officiating, burial following at Smith-Rosemont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Benton, Arkansas.
