Esther Marie Thrasher Hastings age 85, of Arkadelphia, passed away Friday, March 20, 2020 in Arkadelphia. She was born February 3, 1935 to William Roland and Sarah Crawford Bass Sr. She was a member of Sparkman First Baptist Church.
Esther loved playing piano and singing. She served as the church pianist along with her husband in several different congregations. She enjoyed crochet and making rugs. She made afghans for every member of her family. She loved her flowers and working in her flower garden.
Esther was preceded in death by her first husband, Junior Eugene Thrasher; one son, Dennis Thrasher; a granddaughter, Gena Moore; a great-granddaughter, Regan Hatcher; three sisters, Willa Mae Dooley, Ila Imogene Hudson and Shirley Black; two brothers, William Roland “Sam” Bass and John Wesley Bass.
Survivors include her husband, Bro. Billy Hastings; one daughter, Kathy (Phillip) Freeman of Sparkman; one son Jimmy (Joyce) Thrasher of Gurdon; step-son, Don (Mary) Hastings of Moro; two step-daughters, Diane (Ralph) Parten of Nashville, Tennessee and Glenda (Jackie) Yancey of Cabot; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-two great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren and one sister, Edna Elizabeth Doss of Columbus, Mississippi.
There will be no formal visitation. Esther will lie in state 1:00-4:00 PM Sunday, March 22 nd at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home for friends. Graveside service will be held at Shady Grove Cemetery near Curtis.
