Ernest M. Echols age 94, of Amity, died Saturday, June 9, 2007 in Grand Prairie, Texas. He was born May 23, 1913 in Glenwood, Arkansas, the son of John T. and Rilla Ward Echols.
He was a 1934 Graduate of Amity High School and a U. S. Army veteran of WW II serving in the battle to liberate Luzon. He worked in the Amity Post Office for over forty years, serving as postmaster for over twenty years. He was a lifelong member of Amity First Baptist Church serving as Sunday School superintendent for many years. After retiring on December 30, 1977, he continued to enjoy gardening and fishing.
Four brothers, Byron Lay; Horace Lay; Curtis Echols; Harold Echols and one sister, Cordelia Baker preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of over seventy-one years Marie Rowe Echols and one daughter, Nancy Echols of Grand Prairie, Texas.
Visitation will be 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Wednesday, June 13, 2007 in the Amity First Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny McAnally officiating. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery by Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.
