Erika passed peacefully from this world November 4th, 2022. She is survived by her four children, Charlie, Declan, Cara, and Colten, and everyone whose lives she impacted. Her grandparents, mother, sisters, husband, and children will always treasure her memory. Though missed dearly, she will be remembered for her creativity, tenacity, courage, and kindness.
In her lifetime, Erika dedicated her life to helping those around her either through the compassion and generosity she offered her loved ones, through her work as a Peer Support Specialist, and how she raised her two sons. Her legacy is one of optimism, strength, and love. She was determined to see the world a more welcoming and supportive place and worked tirelessly to see that dream a reality.
Before she passed, Erika was a guest speaker at a conference for mental health professionals in the state of Arkansas. One of her closing statements best captured her heart for service and is very likely a message she’d wish shared even beyond her life.
“We have to renew our purpose daily. We may be tired and we may be too few to meet the need, but we may not grow weak. We work in a field where burnout is rampant. I think about the people who were change agents - William Wilberforce, Harriet Tubman, Winston Churchill - any of the people who have changed the way things are today and I try to imagine the quiet back room conversations where they may have been tired or wanting to give up. And I keep going.”
She will be missed greatly, but we hold tight to her memory and we keep going.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday, November 11, 2022 at Smith-Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107).
