Emmett Green

Emmett Gordon Green, 93, of Little Rock went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 22, 2015. He was born on November 3, 1921 to Emmett S. and Essie Green. He grew up on a farm in East End, moved to North Little Rock later graduating with honors from NLR High School. He continued his education at Tulsa University before he was drafted into the Army.

He married the love of his life, Louise Jackson, before being shipped overseas. Gordon returned to North Little Rock after the war and went to work for J.A. Riggs Tractor Co., as a warehouse stocker, learning the business and putting forth 110% as he did in everything. He soon advanced in the Company. After promotions in several areas, he became the General Parts Manager in 1956 until his retirement in 1985. Gordon loved fishing, music and signing in Church. He sang on the street corner for money at the young age of four, and performed with his brother, Orval, on a weekly radio show. Growing up on a farm for most of his pre-teen years, he learned a lot about growing things. He could grow everything and it would be the best and the biggest. He truly had a green thumb. Even at the age of 80, he continued to expand his mind about technology and computers. He had always played guitars, mandolins, bass guitars and at age 81 learned how to play the violin.

Gordon was a wonderful husband, loving and caring father. He was always encouraging, set a great example making sure his family and friends knew he was always there to help if they needed him. He would always enter into the conversation, "Oh by the way, do you know the Lord? He is wonderful". He was a devout Christian and made sure he asked you about your walk with God. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We will miss his smile and all of those hugs.

Gordon is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise, parents, Emmett and Essie Green, son, Gordon Allan Green. He is survived by a brother, Orval Green of Bryant; son, Kent Green of Little Rock; granddaughters, Amanda Humphrey (Kyle), grandson Harrison Emmett Humphrey of AZ and Taylar Green of Bryant; daughter, Sheila Somers (Jim) of Little Rock; grandson, Donavon Somers (Laura); great-granddaughters, Emma and Sophie Somers of AR; granddaughter, Shelleen Bowman (Scott); great-grandchildren, Colton and Mackenzie Bowman of Benton, nieces and nephews.
