Emma Heflin, 101, of North Little Rock, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015. She was born March 26, 1913 in Hector, Arkansas to the late George and Nora Kendrick Heflin. She was a member of First Assembly of God for 35 plus years and retired after 29 years from Timex as bench operator.
After retiring, her living room became a "sewing and quilting shop" where she prided herself in making beautiful hand-pieced and hand-stitched quilts. Her attention to detail made these quilts extra special to anyone who she made them for. A lot of her quilts were made from her old dresses or fabric scrapes that were sewn in a variety of quilt patterns. A lot of the time she made her own quilt patterns as well so each quilt was always unique, even if the pattern was the same, the fabric was always different. And like the hand-pieced quilts, she passed down love, values, and many family stories to her nieces and nephews, especially those who lived the closest, Teresa, Terry and Stanley.
She also loved her outside plants and flowers in her yard, especially her camellia bushes, which have grown into "trees" because she would not allow us to trim them back very much after they bloomed each year. She always had a green thumb and could take even a dead looking stick and put it in the ground and it would grow.
She is survived by Teresa White and husband James of Sherwood; Terry Coffman and wife Cathy of North Little Rock and their children: Leslie McKinnon and husband Nick and their daughter Emma Catherine (namesake), and Arlie Coffman; Stan Heflin and wife Rose of Little Rock and their children: Natasha Davis and husband Justin and their daughters Amelia and Tessa; Courtney Adams and husband Travis, and Carlie Heflin (Emma considered Teresa, Terry and Stan her children). Also, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Dortha Heflin, Madia Lovell and Nora Worley; brothers, Hugh Heflin, Ralph Heflin and Cleamo Coffman; three step-sisters; and one step-brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Hoskins Cemetery, Atkins, Arkansas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Online obituary at
