Elwood “Woody” A. Massey, age 78, of Amity, died Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
He was born on March 27, 1946, in the Midway community of Amity, the son of Ellis Andrew Massey and Ruth Harvey Massey. On July 5, 1969, he was married to Jamye Gayle Dwinell. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sherry Lynn Massey Cowart.
Woody served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1968 and was deployed to Vietnam. After being discharged, he finished his college education at North Texas State University in Denton, TX, with Gayle. After their graduation, Woody and Gayle moved back to Amity and he worked at the Malvern cable plant until his retirement in 2005. He then spent the next twenty years raising cattle and working on a host of building projects, welding jobs, and helping others with their equipment. He was a member and deacon of the Glenwood First Baptist church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gayle Massey, of Amity; three children and their spouses: Mika and Ken Cantrell of Raleigh, NC, Jamey and Terra Massey of Rogers, and Isaac and Elizabeth Massey of Amity; eight grandchildren: Nicole Cantrell, Gabriel Cantrell, Ashley Massey, Olivia Massey, Cloey Massey, Sully Massey, Averly Massey, and Jocelyn Massey; and nieces Ladonna Smith and Dena Burtness and their families.
Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Erby Burgess officiating.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home.
