Elmer Armstrong

Lt. Col. Elmer "Armie" Armstrong (Ret), 85, of North Little Rock passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015. He was born in Del Norte, Colorado on December 22, 1929 to the late Lewis and Mary (Branson) Armstrong. He graduated from Cedaredge (Colorado) High School in 1948 and attended college in Gunnison, Colorado before entering the Air Force. Elmer proudly, and with distinction, served our country for over 20 years, including tours, as a pilot, in the Korean and Vietnam wars, retiring as a Lt. Colonel. After the Air Force, he had a second career in Insurance. He loved to golf and square dance, and in his later years spending time at the Hays senior center. Elmer was admired for his superior intelligence, generous spirit, and quick wit. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steve Armstrong and granddaughter, Shelby Armstrong. Survivors include his son, Brian (Jennifer) Armstrong; daughter, Wendy (James) Armstrong Gilbert all of North Little Rock; grandson, Robert Armstrong of Fayetteville; brothers, Charles Armstrong of Oregon, Eugene (Beverly) Armstrong of Colorado; sisters, Marybelle Armstrong of Iowa, Lois Meyers of Missouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Online obituary at www.SmithFamilyCares.com .
