Ellis Milligan

Ellis Washington Milligan, 95, passed peacefully to his heavenly reward on October 11, 2018. Born in Grange, Arkansas to Samuel and Bessie Milligan on April 4, 1923, he was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Charlestene Milligan; daughters, Ann Milligan of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Pam Burns (John) of Saint Simons Island, Georgia, and Peggy Denman (Bob) of Little Rock; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Milligan retired from Coca Cola of Arkansas. He enjoyed fishing, studying his Bible, and served as a deacon in multiple Baptist Church congregations.

He was an exemplary member of Tom Brokaw's Greatest Generation. He bravely answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army in 1943, serving in the 2nd Army, 38th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion, Company L as a 60 mm mortar gunner and section leader. He fought his way across Europe after landing at Omaha Beach in 1944. He was wounded near Normandy, France and continued the fight during the Battle of Hill 192 and the Battle of the Bulge, earning five Campaign Battle Stars, the Combat Infantry Badge, two Presidential Citations, the Good Conduct Medal, two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Staff Sergeant Milligan was honorably discharged in October, 1945.

The family expresses gratitude to the men and women of the Veterans Administration Hospital and the compassionate staff of Hospice Home Care.

Services will be Monday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), followed by interment with Military Honors at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Samaritan's Purse or a charity of one's choice will honor his Christian life and service.
