Ella Williams

The quiet, stately woman known as Ella Mae Williams died May 13, 2010. She was born August 11, 1915 and was an active resident of Twin Rivers Health and Rehab in Arkadelphia. Mrs. Williams worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator, commuting from Gurdon to Arkadelphia without fail for 29 years with perfect attendance. A native Arkansan, she was an avid gardener, the keeper of family history, and a voracious reader. Her memory for numbers and facts were outstanding and, as a card player, she was often lovingly accused of memorizing the cards since she usually won. Her quiet wisdom and loving guidance will be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Golden Thomas Williams, and her two sons Golden Wesley Williams and Thomas Wayne Williams.

She is survived by two granddaughters, Barbara M. (Williams) Hughes of Ashburn, Virginia, and Brenda S. (Williams) Ewing of Stephens City, Virginia. Her great-grandchildren include Lindsay Hughes Roye, Jennifer Ewing, and Kyle Ewing.

Funeral Services will be 10 AM Monday in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Chapel with Brother William McWa officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery near Sycamore south of Gurdon. Visitation will be 4-6 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
