Elizabeth Alexandria Hunter Sallee age 100, of the Manchester Community passed away on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was born on October 21, 1909, to the late Alexander Littlejohn and Lillie Maude Muller Holloway Hunter.


Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband, Ernest A. Sallee, Sr., a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Sallee and a grandson, Hunter Butler. She is survived by her four children: Ernest A. Sallee, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Hot Springs Village, Mary Jo Sallee Jones and her husband Byron of Crossett, Jane Sallee Stoddard and her husband Lonnie of DeWitt, and Joan Sallee Bullock and her husband Terry Dan of Crocketts Bluff. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Sherrie Sallee Nichols and her husband David of Plympton, MA, Suzanne Sallee Lofgren and her husband Jeffrey of Peterson AFB, CO, Steve Jones and his wife Felicia and Mike Jones and his wife Kim both of Crossett, Cody Bullock and his wife Laura of Little Rock, Scott Bullock and his wife Shannon of Fayetteville. She had 10 great-grandchildren: Shann Carpenter and her husband Shawn of Fountain Hill, Blake, Ryan and Andrew Lofgren of Peterson AFB, CO, Scott and Laurie Nichols of Plympton, MA, Cassie and Gunner Jones of Crossett, Cole and Dylan Jones of Crossett and two great-great-grandchildren, Eric and Kyle Carpenter of Fountain Hill.

Elizabeth was born in the family home, which still stands and bears the historical marker "Hudson-Jones 1837." She married Ernest A. Sallee from Okolona on December 22, 1928, at her parents' home and also celebrated her 100th birthday in that same home just last year.
The Sallees lived in Arkadelphia and the Manchester Community except for a time while Ernest worked for an insurance company and was in the Army stationed around the world. When Ernest retired in 1958, the couple moved to a farm, which they had purchased in 1938. Following Ernest's death in 1990, Elizabeth continued to live on the farm until her death. She was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church, which she attended all her life. She served the church as Communion Steward and was on the Pastor Parish Relations committee. She was active in the community and was a member of the Manchester Extension Homemaker's Club and Rural Community Improvement.

Visitation will be held at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home, 517 Clay Street, Arkadelphia, AR on Friday, March 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at Manchester United Methodist Church on Manchester Road on Saturday March 13, at 10:00 a.m. with the Reverends George Whitney and Ed Matthews officiating. A graveside service will follow at Atchley Cemetery near Dalark.
