Elizabeth Ann Gottschalk

It is with tremendous sadness we say goodbye to the earthly presence of our beautiful Elizabeth Gottschalk who went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday, February 26, 2023. Liz was born to John and Willie Isbell in 1943 in Oakland, CA. She and her sister were raised in Luella, Texas where her parents ran a country store from their home, and she graduated from Tom Bean High School. Liz grew into a forever compassionate and giving of herself matriarch to the Pennell, McClure, and Gottschalk families. She always welcomed as many family and friends as could come to her wonderful homes in San Antonio and Little Rock for each and every holiday or special occasion. She will be remembered for her kindness, her indomitable spirit in the face of any hardship, and for her unceasing love for all family and friends that knew her. The past few years we saw Liz fight bravely against cancer, and she passed away peacefully with friends and family nearby.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her stepfather, Clifford Stephens; sister, Ima Gene McClure; sons, James Pennell, and Ricky Gottschalk; and most recently her niece, Bonnie Gay Williams. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Frederick Lee Gottschalk; son, Ronnie Don Pennell and granddaughter, Sabrina; son and daughter-in-law, John and Crystal Pennell and granddaughters, Makayla and Ashley; great-granddaughter, Lilly; stepdaughter, Joyce Gottschalk and grandsons, Jeffrey and Hunter Gottschalk; daughter-in-law, Alesha Page and grandson, Jackson; great-nephews, Colt Bois and Casey Williams; nephew, John McClure (Dahlila) and their four daughters, Felicity, Emma, Grace, and Hope; and her most recent beloved fur babies, Bruno and Toffee.

Liz’s sister, Ima Gene passed away before any of her granddaughters were born, so Liz had her great nieces Felicity, Emma, Grace, and Hope call her “Granny Aunt Liz” as she stepped in to be a beautiful loving presence in their lives. Liz bestowed many similar acts of kindness on all she met through her generous life here on earth. May she hover over us in her delightful spirit until we meet again…
